About

Laughter in the face of life's challenges is the cornerstone of Tami Childs' therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and Dual Diagnosis Therapist, Tami brings a unique blend of humor, empathy, and evidence-based practices to her work with clients facing mental health and addiction issues.

Tami's approach is rooted in a Strengths-Based, Person-in-Environment perspective, underscored by a steadfast commitment to Trauma-Informed Care. She views each client as a unique individual, eschewing one-size-fits-all methods in favor of tailored interventions drawing from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT). For those grappling with addiction, Tami employs Motivational Interviewing (MI) and Mindfulness-Based Sobriety (MBS), all within a framework of Solution-Focused Therapy (SFT).

A proud Desert Storm Veteran, Tami's global experiences have cultivated a deep appreciation for cultural diversity, making her particularly adept at working with veterans and military families. Her extensive background with the Department of Defense, both as a civilian and in the military, informs her practice and understanding of the unique challenges faced by those in the armed forces.

Tami's expertise extends to a wide range of areas, including anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, chronic stress, addiction, anger management, ADHD, mood disorders, intimacy issues, existential crises, and occupational stress. As an ally to the LGBT2SQ+ community, she offers specialized approaches for individuals and families navigating related challenges. Grief counseling holds a special place in her practice, where she provides compassionate support for those preparing for a loss, coping with a loss, or adapting to life after a loss.

With both her Bachelor of Science in Social Work (BSSW) and Masters in Social Work (MSW) from The Ohio State University, Tami combines academic excellence with real-world experience. Her commitment to ongoing education ensures that she stays at the forefront of emerging research and intervention skills in the field of mental health and addiction treatment.

Tami's therapeutic style is marked by a down-to-earth conversational approach, peppered with "nerdy neuroscience" insights that empower clients to understand and harness the power of their own minds. She creates a safe, judgment-free space where clients are encouraged to express themselves freely, believing that the quality of the therapeutic relationship is paramount to successful outcomes.

For those seeking a therapist who combines professional expertise with a warm, relatable demeanor, Tami Childs offers a unique blend of experience, empathy, and evidence-based practices. Whether you're dealing with addiction, trauma, or simply seeking to improve your mental wellbeing, Tami is dedicated to helping you navigate life's challenges with resilience, humor, and hope.
