Harley Hill
LMHCA • Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate
About
Play is the natural language of a child, and for Harley Hill, LMHCA, it's a powerful tool in her therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor Associate, Harley specializes in working with children as young as 3, teens, and adults, focusing on a range of issues including emotion dysregulation, anxiety, LGBTQIA+ concerns, trauma implications, and neurodivergence such as autism, ADHD, and sensory processing disorder.
Harley's educational background is robust, with a B.S. in Psychology from Purdue University (2020) and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Marian University (2022). Her diverse experience includes three years at a residential treatment facility for children and adolescents with behavioral and developmental disabilities, where she served as an administrator, direct support professional, and crisis management team member. This hands-on experience has equipped her with valuable insights into managing complex behavioral challenges.
During her academic journey, Harley gained practical experience in various settings. At Purdue, she interned at an ABA clinic for children with autism spectrum disorder and worked as a research assistant studying the efficacy of service dogs for children with autism. Her time at Marian University saw her working in a community mental health center, primarily with domestic violence perpetrators, and in a private practice setting exclusively with children and teens.
Currently, Harley is one of three pediatric mental health therapists at The Brave Life Therapy. She continues to expand her expertise through various trainings in play therapy, multicultural issues in counseling, trauma-informed care, and LGBTQIA+ needs. Harley is actively pursuing her Registered Play Therapist (RPT) license through the Association for Play Therapy, further solidifying her commitment to child-centered therapeutic approaches.
Harley's therapeutic philosophy is centered on the belief that play is a child's natural form of expression. She employs both direct and indirect play techniques, infused with humor, to guide children through life's challenges. Her goal is to equip children and their families with resources, skills, and knowledge to foster healthy attachments and create peaceful households. This approach extends to her work with teens and adults, where she adapts her methods to suit the needs of each individual client.
