Board-certified in both general psychiatry and child and adolescent psychiatry, Dr. Vuppala brings over two decades of dedicated practice to the region, offering a unique blend of expertise that is as compassionate as it is comprehensive.

Dr. Vuppala's journey in psychiatry is marked by a commitment to excellence and a deep understanding of the intricate challenges faced by young minds. Since joining the practice in 2001, she has become an integral part of Behavioral Sciences of Alabama, where her specialized skills in child and adolescent psychiatry have made her an invaluable resource for the community. Her practice spans a wide range of services, including outpatient diagnostic evaluations, medication management, individual psychotherapy, behavior management techniques, parent education, play therapy, and family therapy for children and adolescents aged 2 to 20.

The breadth of Dr. Vuppala's expertise is truly remarkable. Her training and experience encompass a vast array of childhood and adolescent mental health issues, including attention deficit and disruptive behavior disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, pervasive developmental disorders such as Autism and Asperger's, learning disorders, anxiety disorders including OCD, PTSD, psychotic disorders, substance abuse, eating disorders, sleep disorders, tic disorders, enuresis, and mental retardation. This comprehensive knowledge allows her to provide tailored care that addresses the unique needs of each young patient and their family.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Vuppala is a passionate advocate for mental health awareness and suicide prevention. As the medical director of SPEAK, the suicide prevention program of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation, she tirelessly works to educate the community and professionals in assessing risk, treating, and preventing suicide. Her commitment to education extends to her role as a clinical assistant professor for the UAB School of Medicine's Department of Psychiatry (Huntsville Campus) and as clinical faculty at VCOM and ACOM Schools of Osteopathic Medicine, where she serves as a preceptor for medical students.

Dr. Vuppala's dedication to her field and community has not gone unnoticed. In 2007, she received the "Exemplary Psychiatrist Award" from the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI) of Huntsville, a rare honor in Alabama that recognizes her significant contribution to a greater public understanding of mental health disorders, especially in children.
