Sharon Murphy
LMFT • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
With a career spanning over two decades, Sharon Murphy brings a wealth of experience to her therapeutic practice, specializing in guiding individuals and couples through life's most challenging transitions. As the founder and former director of the Center for Change, a forensic clinical practice, Sharon has honed her skills in addressing complex relational dynamics and personal growth.
Sharon's approach is rooted in the belief that everyone searches for happiness, but the path isn't always straightforward. She recognizes that life can present obstacles such as childhood issues, troubled relationships, addictions, or a general sense of feeling lost. With this understanding, Sharon tailors her therapeutic techniques to each client's unique situation, drawing from a diverse toolkit that includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic approaches, and the innovative Equine-Assisted Psychotherapy (for which she is EAGALA trained).
Her expertise extends beyond the therapy room, as evidenced by her impressive record of professional presentations. Sharon has shared her insights with a wide range of institutions, including the San Marcos Unified School District, Superior Court in Vista, San Diego County Probation Department, Children's Hospital, California Department of Corrections, and California State University San Marcos. This breadth of experience allows her to bring a multifaceted perspective to her clinical work, particularly beneficial when addressing men's issues, stress management, infidelity, and parenting challenges.
In her private practice, established in 2000, Sharon focuses on helping clients navigate relationships, cope with stress, and manage significant life transitions. Her work in couples therapy is particularly noteworthy, as she helps partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and rediscover connection. Whether working with individuals or couples, Sharon's goal remains consistent: to guide clients towards their true path and help them overcome the obstacles that stand in the way of their happiness.
Sharon's commitment to mental health extends beyond individual client work. As a clinical director, she has played a crucial role in training and supervising both interns and licensed clinicians in individual, couples, and group therapy modalities. This leadership experience not only speaks to her expertise but also to her dedication to advancing the field of mental health as a whole.
