With over 18 years of clinical experience, Satrina Artis, LPC, brings a wealth of knowledge and a holistic perspective to her therapeutic practice at Chesapeake Counseling Center. Specializing in a wide range of mental health concerns, Satrina's approach is grounded in the foundations of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy. This integrative method allows her to tailor her treatment to each client's unique needs.

Satrina's expertise spans across various areas, including depression, anxiety, trauma, ADHD, behavioral issues (such as ODD and Conduct disorder), mood disorders, crisis intervention, life stressors, grief, anger management, impulsivity, and communication/social skills. Her diverse experience enables her to work effectively with children, adolescents, and adults, helping them navigate life's challenges and achieve personal growth.

Satrina's educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice from Norfolk State University, followed by a Master's degree in Community Counseling from the same institution. Her academic training is complemented by extensive practical experience, including a practicum, internship, and residency at Western Tidewater Community Services Board. There, she honed her skills in crisis counseling and conducted Virginia preadmission screenings for individuals requiring acute psychiatric hospitalization.

Throughout her career, Satrina has gained valuable experience in various settings, including Adult Probation & Parole, intensive in-home counseling, therapeutic day treatment, outpatient therapy, substance abuse treatment, children's mobile crisis services, and mental health support services. This diverse background allows her to bring a comprehensive understanding to her current practice.

Satrina is committed to ongoing professional development and has earned additional certifications to enhance her therapeutic toolkit. She is a certified Crisis Intervention Trainer (CIT) and a Certified Grief Professional, adding depth to her ability to support clients through acute crises and profound loss.

In her approach to therapy, Satrina focuses on empowering clients through motivation, identifying personal strengths, and setting achievable goals. She believes in taking a holistic view of each individual, considering all aspects of their life to promote healing and growth.
