A graduate of UNC-School of Social Work, Sarah earned her Master's of Social Work in 2003 and attained full clinical licensure in 2005. Her professional journey includes valuable experience working with families and adolescents at the Institute for Family-Centered Services in Raleigh, where she honed her Spanish language skills. Sarah's 17-year tenure at the Lucy Daniels Center for Early Childhood further solidified her expertise in early childhood mental health, during which she helped create and facilitate a mental health program for young children through Wake County SmartStart.
Sarah's therapeutic approach is built on a foundation of respect, understanding, non-judgment, and honesty. She utilizes a psychodynamic framework, which is insight-oriented, and incorporates evidence-based models such as solution-focused therapy and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT). Additionally, Sarah integrates mindfulness techniques to help clients gain insight into their thoughts and their impact on daily life.
Certified in Circle of Security, an evidence-based framework for strengthening attachment between young children and their caregivers, Sarah brings a unique perspective to her work with families. Her commitment to cultural competence is evident in her extensive experience providing therapy in Spanish for over 18 years, coupled with her passion for working with people from diverse backgrounds.
Sarah Stevens welcomes clients aged 17 and up, as well as families and couples, offering support for anxiety, depression, mood disorders, family counseling, and grief and loss. Her specialized focus on perinatal mental health encompasses the entire journey from conception (including infertility complications) through the first two years after childbirth, providing comprehensive support for mothers, partners, and families during this transformative period.
