Ryan Rose

Empowering diverse voices through an integrative approach to therapy, Dr. Ryan Rose stands at the forefront of inclusive mental health care. As a psychologist specializing in LGBTQIAAPP2+ affirming therapy, Dr. Rose creates a safe space where clients can explore their unique intersections of identity, sexuality, and personal growth.

Dr. Rose's journey in psychology began in 2009 at The Ohio State University, where he discovered his passion for therapy. He went on to earn his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from Wright State University's School of Professional Psychology, focusing on expanding his understanding of diversity, multiculturalism, and equity. This educational foundation laid the groundwork for his commitment to serving underrepresented communities.

Throughout his career, Dr. Rose has deliberately sought out experiences to enhance his expertise in working with minority and underserved populations. His internship at the University of Wisconsin – Madison and postdoctoral education at The Ohio State University further honed his skills in addressing the complex needs of clients with multiple salient minority identities. Since joining City Counseling in Spring 2019, Dr. Rose has continued to refine his practice, offering individual, couples, and group therapy.

As a generalist and integrative practitioner, Dr. Rose draws from a diverse toolkit of therapeutic approaches. He seamlessly blends Rogerian, Interpersonal, Family Systems, Psychodynamic, Existential/Humanistic, and Multicultural techniques to create a tailored experience for each client. This flexible, collaborative approach allows Dr. Rose to meet clients "where they are" in their healing journey, fostering self-esteem and personal growth.

Dr. Rose's areas of specialty are as diverse as the communities he serves. He offers LGBTQIAAPP2+ affirming therapy, trans affirming therapy (including evaluations and letter writing for trans affirming surgery), and therapy for differently-abled individuals. His expertise extends to working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum, those with ADHD, and clients exploring consensual non-monogamy or polyamorous relationships. Dr. Rose is also well-versed in kink/BDSM/fetish affirming therapy and addressing LGBTQIAAPP2+ spiritual and religious trauma.

Identifying as a gay, temporarily able-bodied, cisgender male, Dr. Rose brings both personal insight and professional expertise to his practice. His approach emphasizes collaboration, helping clients find their own "therapeutic voice" to build interpersonal independence and a stronger self-concept. Dr. Rose's warm, professional demeanor creates an environment where clients feel empowered to explore their identities, challenges, and aspirations.

At City Counseling, Dr. Rose continues to expand his impact, working with adult individuals, couples, and poly/CNM clients.
