About
Storytelling isn't just a hobby for Patti Christensen, LCSW—it's a powerful tool in her therapeutic approach. As a professional storyteller on staff at a local children's hospital, Patti understands that changing one's narrative can be the key to transforming one's life. This unique perspective informs her work as a California Licensed Clinical Social Worker, where she has been helping teens and adults of all ages rewrite their stories for over 25 years.
With more than 17 years of dedicated service at Palomar Family Counseling Services, Patti has established herself as a master clinician and supervisor. Her approach is rooted in the belief that understanding oneself is the foundation for creating a more satisfying life. In a safe, non-judgmental environment, Patti works collaboratively with her clients to identify behaviors and thoughts that may be holding them back, equipping them with the tools to not just survive, but thrive in the face of life's challenges.
Patti's expertise spans a wide range of specialties, reflecting her diverse background and training. She is particularly adept at working with the LGBTQ community, providing trauma-informed care for survivors of intimate partner abuse and sexual assault, and addressing mid-life and aging issues. Her practice also encompasses support for those dealing with divorce and family changes, grief and loss, anxiety, and individuals pondering life choices or grappling with health conditions. Patti's unique blend of clinical skills and storytelling experience makes her especially effective in using expressive arts as a therapeutic tool.
Drawing from a rich tapestry of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Feminist Empowerment, Solution-Focused approaches, and Expressive Arts, Patti tailors her methods to meet each client's individual needs. Her versatility extends to the format of therapy as well, offering services online, by phone, and in person at locations in Escondido and Fallbrook, CA.
Patti's educational background is as diverse as her clinical experience. She holds a Master's degree in Social Work from The University of Minnesota and a Master's in Pastoral Theology from Luther Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota. This unique combination allows her to address spiritual trauma and questions about spirituality with sensitivity and expertise. As a Program Director for School-Based Services and a clinical supervisor for graduate students and pre-licensed staff, Patti continues to shape the next generation of mental health professionals while maintaining her commitment to direct client care.
