With a passion for healing and a commitment to evidence-based practices, Melissa Shane brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor. Her journey in mental health began at Bradley University, where she earned both her Bachelor's in Psychology and Master's in Counseling, graduating with academic distinction in May 1999.

Melissa's professional journey is marked by continuous growth and specialization. She holds the distinguished certifications of Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level I & II (CCTP-I & CCTP-II), showcasing her dedication to trauma-informed care. Her diverse experience includes serving as an Adjunct Professor of Psychology for thirteen years, followed by a decade in private practice before founding Healing Hearts Counseling in 2017.

Melissa's therapeutic approach is both comprehensive and tailored, drawing from her advanced training in various modalities. She is skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). Her expertise extends to specialized areas such as Parental Alienation, Sand Tray, and Play Therapy, allowing her to address a wide spectrum of client needs.

Working with clients across all age groups, Melissa adeptly handles a broad range of issues. Her areas of focus include dysfunctional family of origin issues, narcissistic abuse, trauma, grief and loss, death and dying, depression and anxiety, and women's issues across the lifespan. She has a particular interest in perinatal mood disorders, menopause, empty nest adjustment, and relationship problems, offering comprehensive support for women at various life stages.

Beyond her professional life, Melissa's personal interests add depth to her therapeutic approach. She has a love for the dramatic and creative, enjoying music, ballet, opera, and the arts. Her fascination with Dracula, unicorns, mermaids, the ocean, and fairies speaks to her appreciation of the magical and imaginative – elements that likely enhance her ability to connect with clients, especially younger ones, in unique and engaging ways.
