Melissa Mistrot

With a passion for helping clients feel understood and giving hope to those who feel hopeless, Melissa Mistrot, M.S., LPC, brings nearly two decades of experience to her counseling practice. As a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor, Melissa has honed her skills working with diverse populations, including adults and adolescents, in both inpatient and outpatient facilities.

Melissa's approach is rooted in the belief that people can become complacent with discomfort, unknowingly forming views and behaviors that hinder their growth. Her primary goal is to create an open, honest, and judgment-free space where clients can speak freely about their concerns. Recognizing that healing is a process, Melissa is dedicated to helping clients identify unhealthy patterns that may be blocking positive growth and overall happiness, while exploring new and effective coping mechanisms.

With an inviting spirit, Melissa takes the time to get to know her clients and regularly checks in about the therapeutic relationship's progress. She strives to create a safe environment where clients can feel comfortable opening up, gain self-awareness, and resolve issues to enhance personal growth. Melissa utilizes a person-centered approach that draws from multiple modalities, including cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and rational emotive behavior therapy. Her experience spans a wide range of topics, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues.

Melissa earned her Master's Degree in Counselor Education from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in 2005. She is board licensed through the state of Louisiana as a Licensed Professional Counselor and holds a certification as a National Certified Counselor through The National Board for Certified Counselors. This solid educational foundation, combined with her extensive experience, particularly in school settings with adolescents, allows Melissa to offer a unique perspective to her clients.

In her practice, Melissa brings compassion and a fresh perspective that offers insight and encouragement to support her clients' forward movement. She understands that life's struggles can be overwhelming and challenging, and she is committed to walking alongside her clients on their journey towards healing and growth. When she's not in the office, Melissa enjoys traveling, reading, watching movies, and spending time with her cute little poodle named Max.
