Megan Smalley
LCSW • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
About
Driven by a passion for social justice and equality, Megan Smalley, LCSW, brings a unique blend of compassion and clinical expertise to her work with high-risk populations. Her journey into the world of mental health began with a desire to advocate for marginalized communities, leading her to specialize in crisis intervention and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
Megan's professional path took shape through her experiences in diverse settings. Initially planning a career in foster care and child advocacy, her trajectory shifted when she encountered the profound needs of underserved populations. In Virginia, she worked closely with families, developing strategies to keep teens out of inpatient hospitals. This experience honed her skills in crisis management and family intervention, laying the groundwork for her future specialization.
Upon returning to Oklahoma, Megan deepened her expertise in crisis intervention, solidifying her commitment to serving high-risk individuals. Recognizing the power of DBT as a vehicle for effective change, she embraced this therapeutic approach to help clients navigate intense emotional experiences and develop life-changing skills. Her practice is grounded in the belief that every individual, regardless of their background or struggles, deserves compassionate, ethical care that honors their inherent worth.
Megan's therapeutic approach is informed by her strong values of equality, social justice, ethics, and community. She brings these principles into her work, creating a safe and empowering space for clients to explore their challenges and strengths. As a Wahzhazhe tribal member, Megan also brings a culturally informed perspective to her practice, enhancing her ability to connect with and understand diverse client experiences.
With a Master of Social Work from Washington University in St. Louis and a Bachelor of Social Work from Christopher Newport University, Megan has continued to expand her expertise through specialized training. Her educational background includes DBT Foundational Training, DBT Substance-Use Disorder Training, and DBT Family Interventions in Crisis and Beyond, equipping her with a comprehensive toolkit to address a wide range of client needs.
