Matthew Martenson
MS Ed., LMHC • Licensed Mental Health Counselor
About
From a humanistic, strengths-based perspective, Matthew Martenson empowers adults to navigate their mental health challenges and unlock their innate potential. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and owner of QC Counselor, Matthew brings a unique blend of cognitive behavioral therapy approaches and mindfulness-based stress reduction exercises to help clients rewrite the unhelpful narratives impacting their lives.
Matthew's expertise shines in his specialized work with anxiety disorders, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and anger management. In October 2019, he elevated his practice by obtaining certification as a Certified Anxiety Treatment Professional through the Institute of Certified Anxiety Treatment Professionals (ICATP). This advanced training allows Matthew to offer a sophisticated blend of cognitive behavioral, exposure, and mindfulness interventions, empowering clients to understand and thrive despite challenging thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
For those grappling with posttraumatic stress, Matthew employs Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), an evidence-based, non-intrusive treatment recognized as the gold standard by the VA. His commitment to effective, tailored care extends to his anger management program, a minimum 6-session curriculum designed to help individuals transform aggressive thoughts and behaviors into a healthier relationship with anger.
At the core of Matthew's practice is a profound belief in the dignity, power, and potential of every human being. He has made it his mission to help clients recognize and harness their inner strength through education, empowerment, empathy, and respect. This philosophy permeates every aspect of his work, creating a therapeutic environment where growth and self-discovery flourish.
When not in the office, Matthew finds joy and balance in spending time with his wife and four children, indulging in his passions for reading, fishing, and woodworking. These personal pursuits not only enrich his life but also inform his holistic approach to mental health, recognizing the importance of work-life balance and personal fulfillment in overall wellbeing.
