Matt Reid
MFT • Marriage and Family Therapist
About
Grounded in the belief that relationships shape our experiences, Matt Reid brings an integrative approach to therapy that combines empirically informed theories with authentic, tailored care. As a Marriage and Family Therapist at Mindful Nashville Therapy & Wellness Center, Matt views therapy through a relational lens, considering not just partnerships and family dynamics, but also one's relationship with self and the broader systems in which we exist.
Matt's therapeutic style is characterized by a calming presence, deep listening, and genuine curiosity. He draws from a variety of empirically supported models, adapting his approach to meet each client's unique goals and needs. This flexibility allows him to provide an experience that generates meaningful and lasting change for individuals, couples, partners, and families alike.
With a strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity, Matt grounds his practice in humility and openness. He is particularly attuned to the dynamics of power and privilege associated with intersecting identities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all clients. His areas of expertise include anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, identity formation, issues related to spirituality and religion, substance use, couple/partner conflict, LGBTQ+ relationship and identity, and consensual non-monogamy/poly relationships.
Matt's academic background includes an MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University, where he gained valuable clinical training at the Bette D. Harris Child and Family Clinic. His research interests are evident in his thesis, which explored the dyadic coming out process in mixed-orientation relationships. Adding depth to his practice, Matt completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Polebridge, Montana, embodying his belief that true wellbeing encompasses both mind and body.
At Mindful Nashville, Matt is part of an integrative team that focuses on holistic health and wellbeing. His approach aligns with the center's mission to connect mind, body, and soul, offering clients a comprehensive path to breaking free from cycles of suffering and discovering ease and joy in the present moment.
