About

With over three decades of dedicated clinical practice, Marcia Boring, M.S.W., LCSW, has cultivated a wealth of experience in addressing a diverse range of mental health needs. Her approach is founded on creating a safe, comfortable environment where clients feel genuinely heard and supported throughout their therapeutic journey.

Marcia's extensive expertise encompasses treating individuals, families, and groups struggling with both long-term and acute mental health challenges. Her areas of focus include mood disorders (such as bipolar disorder), depression, anxiety, trauma, grief and loss, ADHD, and Asperger's. This broad spectrum of experience allows her to tailor her approach to each client's unique needs, always prioritizing what best serves their current situation.

In recent years, Marcia has developed a specialized focus on supporting women experiencing postpartum depression and anxiety. Recognizing the complex nature of perinatal mood disorders, she encourages the participation of significant others in the treatment process when appropriate. Her comprehensive approach in this area extends to addressing depression, anxiety, OCD, trauma, ADHD, and the profound grief associated with loss events such as stillbirth, fetal demise, and miscarriage.

Marcia's educational background includes a Master of Social Work (M.S.W.) from Indiana University School of Social Work, Indianapolis, obtained in 1978, and a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) from Indiana University School of Arts and Sciences, Bloomington, completed in 1972. She has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (L.C.S.W.) since 1992 and an Academy of Certified Social Workers (A.C.S.W.) member since 1981.

Beyond her clinical work, Marcia demonstrates a commitment to community service and professional development. She is affiliated with the National Association of Social Workers and actively participates in local organizations such as the Marion County Domestic Violence Network, Marion County Rape Advisory Council Board of Directors, and Big Sisters of Central Indiana. These engagements reflect her dedication to addressing broader social issues that often intersect with mental health concerns.

Marcia Boring's approach to therapy is characterized by her ability to meet clients where they are in the treatment process. Whether dealing with long-standing mental health issues or navigating sudden life changes, she strives to create a therapeutic experience that is responsive, compassionate, and tailored to each individual's unique circumstances.
