Lindsay DeHaas
MSW, LISW • Licensed Independent Social Worker
About
Compassionate connection forms the cornerstone of Lindsay DeHaas's therapeutic approach. As a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW), Lindsay views the therapeutic relationship as a partnership, considering it a privilege to walk alongside individuals during their most challenging moments. Her deep-seated belief in the power of meaningful connections drives her practice, as she strives to create an environment where clients feel seen, heard, known, and accepted.
Lindsay specializes in trauma treatment, with particular expertise in the Instinctual Trauma Response (ITR) model. This brief, intensive therapy utilizes directive forms of play or art therapy to assist in organizing and re-coding trauma memories. By engaging both hemispheres of the brain, this approach aims to provide relief and increase a person's capacity for self-compassion and connection with others. Lindsay's proficiency in ITR reflects her commitment to utilizing evidence-based methods that promote healing and growth.
With a diverse range of expertise, Lindsay adeptly addresses a broad spectrum of mental health challenges. Her areas of specialization include ADHD, adjustment disorders, adoption, anxiety disorders, behavioral issues, child abuse and neglect, Christian counseling, foster care, mood disorders, parenting education, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), relationship and boundary issues, sexual abuse, school issues, and trauma. This comprehensive skill set allows her to tailor her approach to each client's unique needs and circumstances.
Lindsay's professional journey is built upon a solid educational foundation. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Social Work with a minor in Psychology from Malone University in 2010, followed by a Master's degree in Social Work from the University of Akron in 2014. Throughout her career, Lindsay has provided direct care as a social worker and mental health clinician in various settings, including home, community, and office environments. Her experience spans working with children as young as 4 years old, adolescents, and adults, addressing a wide array of challenges including mental health issues, severe trauma experiences, family dynamics, developmental disabilities, domestic violence, substance abuse, foster care, adoption, and childhood physical & sexual abuse and neglect.
In her therapeutic practice, Lindsay employs a client-centered and strengths-based approach. She skillfully integrates methods from Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help clients navigate their unique challenges. Her focus remains on utilizing methods that will best assist each individual in making progress and moving forward in their personal journey.
For clients who desire it, Lindsay is able to integrate faith into the therapeutic setting, drawing from her experience in providing counseling within a Christian faith context. This flexibility allows her to meet the individual needs and preferences of her clients, ensuring a holistic approach to mental health care.
Lindsay DeHaas stands ready to support those taking brave steps forward in their journey of healing and growth. Her compassionate approach, coupled with her extensive experience and specialized training, makes her a valuable ally for individuals seeking to overcome trauma, manage mental health challenges, and build resilience in their lives.
