Kristin Orbin
Graduate Level Intern
About
With a compassionate approach rooted in personal experience, Kristin Orbin brings a unique perspective to her role as a Graduate Level Intern at Wise Family Wellness. As a queer, neurodivergent counseling intern, Kristin is deeply committed to creating a therapeutic environment that embodies safety, acceptance, and intentional listening for all her clients.
Currently pursuing her master's in clinical counseling at Southern New Hampshire University, Kristin combines her academic knowledge with a rich tapestry of life experiences. Her background as a lifelong "journaler" informs her therapeutic approach, encouraging clients to explore their inner worlds through writing. This creative modality allows for deep processing of internal thoughts and dialogues, tapping into areas the mind might otherwise shy away from.
Kristin's counseling philosophy is grounded in a family systems lens, recognizing the interconnectedness of individual experiences within broader relational contexts. She skillfully incorporates trauma-focused cognitive behavioral techniques and solution-focused approaches, tailoring her methods to each client's unique needs. Her practice is further enriched by the use of art, play, and other creative therapeutic approaches, offering diverse avenues for expression and healing.
Specializing in working with children, tweens, and teens, Kristin also extends her support to the adults who care for them. She holds a particular passion for supporting individuals who have experienced religious trauma and abuse while coming out as LGBTQIA+ in conservative environments. Additionally, Kristin provides guidance to those grappling with trauma, anxiety, depression, and the complexities of ADHD.
At the heart of Kristin's practice is a deep-seated belief in the power of safe connections and the vital importance of feeling validated. She draws inspiration from Bessel A. van der Kolk's assertion that "being able to feel safe with other people is probably the most important aspect of mental health." In every session, Kristin strives to create this sense of safety, fostering an environment where clients can authentically explore their experiences and emotions.
