Kendra Penski

With over 15 years of experience as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Kendra Penski brings a wealth of expertise to her role as Director at Freedom Within Center. Specializing in working with military personnel, Veterans, and their partners, Kendra has cultivated a deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by these populations.

Kendra's approach to therapy is rooted in her extensive experience treating PTSD, Military Sexual Trauma (MST), anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Her background includes working both on military bases and with the VA, providing her with invaluable insights into the complexities of military life and the transition to civilian life. This firsthand experience is further enriched by her personal connection to the military, as her partner served active duty in the Marine Corps for 8 years and continues to serve in the reserves.

As a certified practitioner in Prolonged Exposure Therapy and Cognitive Processing Therapy, Kendra employs evidence-based techniques to help clients navigate their challenges. She also integrates Emotion Focused Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy into her sessions, tailoring her approach to each client's unique needs. Kendra firmly believes that clients are the experts on their own lives, and she sees her role as helping them uncover the tools and skills necessary for personal growth and healing.

Kendra's philosophy on mental health emphasizes the transformative power of therapy as a process of self-discovery. She creates a welcoming and inclusive space where authenticity, humor, and genuine care form the foundation of the therapeutic relationship. Outside of her professional life, Kendra finds balance in her roles as a parent and outdoor enthusiast. She enjoys spending time with her two young children and Boxer pup, playing volleyball, walking on the beach, and exploring new places in her family's motorhome. These personal experiences contribute to her well-rounded approach to therapy, allowing her to connect with clients on a human level while maintaining professional boundaries.
