About

Passionate about destigmatizing mental health in the African American community, Kelvin Davis brings a fresh perspective to the field of counseling. As a Licensed Professional Counselor-Associate, Kelvin combines his academic background with a deep-rooted commitment to advocacy, creating a unique approach to therapy that is both empathetic and culturally sensitive.

Kelvin's journey into the world of mental health began with an inspiring encounter during his senior year of high school. A visiting therapist's speech ignited his interest in psychology, setting him on a path that would eventually lead to his current role. This early inspiration carried him through his undergraduate studies at the University of North Texas, where he earned a bachelor's degree in psychology with a minor in counseling.

Despite facing challenges during his initial graduate studies at UNT, Kelvin's resilience and dedication to his chosen field prevailed. With the support of his family and mentor, Mia Oller, he rekindled his passion for counseling and successfully completed his Master of Science in clinical mental health counseling at Texas A&M University-Commerce. This experience not only honed his professional skills but also reinforced his commitment to helping others overcome obstacles.

Kelvin's approach to therapy is rooted in a combination of person-centered counseling and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. He is particularly interested in working with couples, families, and individuals, with a special focus on serving the African American community. His involvement with the Counseling for Social Justice (CSJ) organization during his time at UNT has equipped him with valuable skills in advocating for marginalized communities, including people of color, women, individuals with disabilities, and those from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

As a counselor, Kelvin is dedicated to bridging the gap between the African American community and mental health services. He recognizes the unique challenges faced by this population and is committed to providing culturally competent care that addresses these specific needs. While his focus is on the African American community, Kelvin welcomes clients from all backgrounds, bringing his empathetic and person-centered approach to each therapeutic relationship.

Kelvin's journey in the field of counseling is marked by continuous growth and a genuine passion for helping others. His commitment to professional development, combined with his diverse experiences and advocacy work, positions him as a compassionate and effective therapist ready to support clients in their journey towards mental wellness.
