Kelsey Moffatt
LCSW • Licensed Clinical Social Worker
About
With a passion for ethically integrating religion and spirituality into trauma therapy, Kelsey Moffatt, LCSW, brings a unique and deeply compassionate approach to her practice. Currently pursuing her PhD in Social Work at Baylor University, Kelsey is dedicated to furthering her clinical development as a therapist while also honing her skills as a professor and researcher.
Kelsey's journey in mental health began seven years ago when she worked as a social work intern in a psychiatric hospital. This experience exposed her to the challenges faced by individuals with severe and persistent mental illnesses, igniting her commitment to addressing the gaps in the mental health care system. Her subsequent work at the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children in Waco, Texas, solidified her passion for trauma therapy, as she witnessed firsthand the brain's remarkable ability to grow from hardship and the human capacity for healing within a therapeutic relationship.
Throughout her career, Kelsey has gained extensive experience working with diverse populations. From 2018 to 2021, she provided school-based individual and family therapy services to children, adolescents, young adults, and families dealing with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, grief, relationship challenges, and life transitions. Her dedication to improving mental health care in educational settings led her to develop a suicidal ideation policy for a public charter school district and educate teachers on identifying mental illness and trauma in school-age children.
Kelsey's therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy models, which she applies within the context of a strong therapeutic relationship and a strengths-based treatment focus. She specializes in working with adolescents and young adults, as well as individuals of all ages who have experienced trauma. Her commitment to creating a safe therapeutic environment is paramount, recognizing that while relationships can be a source of love and joy, they can also be a source of pain and trauma.
In her role as a therapist, Kelsey emphasizes the importance of collaboration with clients in developing therapy goals. She conducts holistic assessments to identify areas of challenge and desired outcomes, working alongside clients to build treatment goals based on their unique strengths. Kelsey's approach is characterized by continual review and adjustment to ensure her interventions are both effective and helpful for each individual client.
Kelsey Moffatt's dedication to her field extends beyond her clinical work. As a clinical supervisor for MSWs, she is known for her upbeat personality, professionalism, and thorough approach to supervision. Her commitment to combining faith and clinical judgment in therapy makes her a trusted and respected figure in the social work community. Through her ongoing education and professional development, Kelsey continues to enhance her ability to provide compassionate, effective care that addresses the complex interplay between mental health, spirituality, and personal growth.
