Katie Frits
MS, LCPC, RPT, NCC • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor
About
Finding hope in the midst of anxiety as a young person ignited Katie Frits' passion for adolescent-focused therapy. As a Licensed Professional Counselor (LCPC) and Registered Play Therapist (RPT), Katie brings a unique blend of personal experience and professional expertise to her practice, specializing in helping adolescents navigate the challenges of anxiety, depression, and identity issues.
Katie's journey in mental health began with her own struggles with anxiety throughout middle and high school, extending into early adulthood. This personal experience not only shaped her career path but also allows her to deeply connect with and validate each client's experiences. After graduating from Iowa State University with a Bachelor's of Science in Psychology, Katie gained valuable experience working in a residential setting for adolescents needing intensive care. She then pursued her Master's of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Drake University, graduating in 2018.
With a strong foundation in both education and hands-on experience, Katie has developed a comprehensive approach to therapy. She employs evidence-based interventions, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and play therapy. Katie's primary goal is to build a safe and secure therapeutic relationship with every client, providing them with the tools and techniques needed to navigate their day-to-day challenges effectively.
Katie's professional journey includes four years in case management, helping children, adolescents, and families in non-profit settings. For the past five years, she has been working in private practice while also leading groups in Renew's Two Tents Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP). This diverse experience allows her to offer a range of services, from individual therapy to group sessions, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
As an Associate Director and Clinical Intake Specialist at the Anxiety Center of Kansas City, Katie continues to expand her impact on the mental health community. She has recently become a board-approved supervisor for LPCs in Kansas, offering both individual and group supervision options. Her goal as a clinical supervisor is to support young clinicians in building confidence in themselves and their clinical practice, further contributing to the field of mental health.
When not in the office, Katie enjoys spending time with her husband, two toddlers, and their two golden retrievers, Henry and Emma. She's an avid sports fan, cheering for Iowa State and the Chiefs, and has even ventured into Fantasy Football. Katie's approachable nature and commitment to creating a supportive therapeutic environment make her an ideal choice for adolescents and families seeking guidance through mental health challenges.
