Kathy Chastain
LMFT, CDWF • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
At the intersection of faith and evidence-based therapy stands Kathy Chastain, LMFT, CDWF, a therapist whose unique approach combines Biblical principles with proven psychological theories. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Certified Daring Way™ Facilitator, Kathy brings a wealth of experience and a multifaceted perspective to her practice.
Kathy's journey to becoming a therapist is as diverse as her approach. Before entering the field of mental health, she had a successful career in the sports nutrition and fitness industry, where she owned national retail stores and even produced Fresno's first NPC bodybuilding show. This background instilled in her a deep understanding of personal transformation and the importance of holistic well-being.
Her transition to therapy was marked by significant experiences that shaped her professional focus. As a graduate intern, Kathy worked with female felony parolees transitioning from prison to residential treatment facilities. She also volunteered at Tulare County's Juvenile Justice Detention Facility, experiences that ignited her passion for working with offender-based populations. Recognizing the needs of at-risk youth, Kathy went on to found Tulare County's first Licensed Runaway & Homeless Youth Shelter, Genesis House, demonstrating her commitment to community service and social change.
Kathy's therapeutic approach is rooted in the belief that psychological and emotional distress often stem from a lack of love, acceptance, and belonging. She specializes in helping individuals, particularly those from backgrounds of abuse, addiction, or abandonment, discover their inherent value and self-worth. By merging evidence-based theories with Biblical principles, Kathy guides her clients towards finding their identity, worth, and purpose.
As a Court Involved Therapist (CIT) and member of the Association of Family and Conciliation Courts, Kathy is well-equipped to handle complex cases involving custody disputes and court appointments. Her expertise extends beyond traditional therapy; she is also an ordained Christian Minister and the author of "Redeem California, With God, All Things Are Possible."
Kathy's practice is characterized by her natural problem-solving abilities and her talent for identifying blind spots and gaps where needs exist. She is a staunch advocate for those who struggle to find their voice, believing in the possibility of change and the power of living an authentic life. Her values of truth, faith, and freedom are integral to her work, as she strives to help her clients achieve restoration, redemption, and reconciliation.
With a Myers-Briggs Typology Indicator of INFJ, Kathy brings intuition, empathy, and depth to her interactions with clients. Her diverse background, coupled with her specialized training in Shame Resilience Theory based on the research of Brené Brown, allows her to offer a truly unique and comprehensive approach to therapy. For those seeking a therapist who can balance faith with practical life strategies, Kathy Chastain offers a path to personal growth and healing that is both grounded in professional expertise and inspired by spiritual principles.
