Kathleen Moye
LMHC, RDT • Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Drama Therapist
About
From stage to therapy room, Kathleen Moye brings a unique blend of theatrical experience and mental health expertise to her practice at Harmony Harbor Counseling & Wellness. As a Florida native and former professional actor, Kathleen has spent two decades harnessing the power of theater and creative arts to support mental health, self-expression, and overall well-being.
Kathleen's journey to becoming a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and Registered Drama Therapist was shaped by her firsthand experience of the therapeutic benefits of the arts. This personal insight drives her innovative approach to therapy, where she seamlessly integrates creative techniques with evidence-based practices. Since joining Harmony Harbor in 2021, Kathleen has become an integral part of the team, leading Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) groups and providing a wide range of options for individual and family therapy.
As a therapist, Kathleen embraces the idea that "play is our brain's favorite way of learning," a concept articulated by writer Diane Ackerman. She encourages her clients - whether individuals, couples, or families - to tap into their innate sense of playfulness and inner wisdom. This approach allows clients to carry these qualities into their everyday lives, fostering a sense of freedom and authenticity. Kathleen's relational style, openness, and compassionate sense of humor create a safe and welcoming environment where clients can feel at ease exploring their challenges and potential.
In her sessions, Kathleen offers clients the opportunity to share their struggles, examine their personal narratives for patterns or stuck places, and imagine and enact strategies for positive change. Her expertise in drama therapy techniques enhances her work with DBT skills, making them more accessible to kinesthetic learners through hands-on, interactive, and experiential opportunities to practice these vital skills.
Kathleen's professional focus encompasses a wide range of areas, including partnering with parents and blended families to improve relationships and address behavior challenges, using art to enhance communication and insight with couples, supporting adjustment for teens and adults coping with life changes and identity issues, and teaching clients to apply new skills for managing persistent mental health challenges such as ADHD, Autism, anxiety, depression, anger management, and personality disorders. Her commitment to ongoing education in areas such as arts in healthcare, body-based psychological healing, complex trauma treatment, and the needs of neurodiverse teens and adults ensures that her practice remains at the forefront of therapeutic innovation.
With her Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Drama Therapy from Lesley University, certification as a Registered Drama Therapist, and specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Kathleen offers a truly integrative approach to mental health care. Her unique background as both a performer and a therapist allows her to bring creativity, empathy, and evidence-based techniques together in a way that resonates deeply with her clients, helping them to write new, more fulfilling chapters in their life stories.
