Kate S Godsey
LMFT • Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
About
With over three and a half decades of dedicated experience in mental health, Kate S Godsey brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to her practice as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT). Her journey in the field began with a Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from San Francisco State University, leading to licensure in California in 1994 and more recently in New Mexico in 2020.
Kate's approach to therapy is both versatile and collaborative. She prides herself on her ability to adapt her therapeutic style to best suit each client's unique needs, viewing the therapeutic relationship as a true partnership. This flexibility is backed by her extensive experience and training in a wide array of clinical practices, including PTSD, trauma exposure, depression, anxiety, substance abuse, loss and grief, personality disorders, marital issues, family/child issues, and cultural issues.
While Kate's expertise spans a broad spectrum of mental health concerns, her particular passion lies in working with adolescents and young adults. With 20 years of experience in the criminal justice system and extensive work with 'transitional age youth' (ages 18-26), Kate brings a deep understanding of the challenges and potential for growth inherent in this pivotal life stage. She describes this period as not only challenging but also deeply creative, marked by resilience and courage.
Kate's therapeutic toolkit is as diverse as her experience. She is well-versed in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Trauma-informed care, Systems Therapy for families and couples, Addiction Treatment Models, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Brief Psychodynamic Therapy, among others. This breadth of knowledge allows her to tailor her approach to each client's specific needs and goals.
At Mindful Counseling's northeast office, Kate offers individual, couples, and family counseling to clients ranging from 12 to 65 years old. She approaches each therapy session with a deep sense of reverence, viewing the trust clients place in her as a privilege and the opportunity to witness their healing as a profound gift. Kate's extensive experience, coupled with her adaptable and client-centered approach, makes her a valuable resource for those seeking support in navigating life's challenges and fostering personal growth.
