About
From ministry to mental health, Jessica Uke's journey to becoming a counselor is rooted in a deep desire to help individuals process their past and rewrite hopeful futures. As a counseling resident at Sanctuary Counseling Center, Jessica is on the cusp of completing her Clinical Mental Health Counseling Degree from Harding University in December 2024. Her unique background in full-time ministry, first in Arkansas and then in Memphis, TN, has cultivated a therapeutic disposition that now informs her counseling approach.
Jessica believes that her role as a counselor is to create a nurturing environment where clients can gain valuable insights into their problems and behaviors. She is dedicated to helping individuals not only understand their challenges but also learn new skills and behaviors to overcome them. This philosophy underscores her commitment to empowering clients on their journey towards mental and emotional well-being.
Currently, Jessica is expanding her expertise in both individual and group counseling settings. She is gaining valuable experience in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a cutting-edge therapy technique known for its effectiveness in treating trauma and various mental health conditions. This additional training showcases Jessica's commitment to providing diverse and effective treatment options for her clients.
Jessica's areas of focus include anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and identity/low self-esteem issues. Her educational background, which includes a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Arkansas State University (2018), brings a holistic perspective to her practice, recognizing the interconnection between physical and mental well-being.
As a counseling resident at Sanctuary Counseling Center, Jessica benefits from the supervision and guidance of experienced mental health professionals.
