About

With a background deeply rooted in emergency services and a passion for supporting those who protect and serve, Jennifer Leftwich, LCSW, brings a unique "put the wet stuff on the red stuff" approach to mental health care. Her 10-year journey spans crisis intervention, emergency services, formal peer support, and professional clinical mental health practice, making her especially attuned to the needs of first responders, public safety professionals, and their families.

Jennifer's practice is shaped by her diverse experiences, from serving as a 911 Emergency Communications Officer to creating and coordinating a CISM/Peer Support program. This rich background, combined with her family roots in first response, healthcare, and military service, gives her a profound understanding of the challenges faced by those in high-stress professions.

Specializing in adult therapy, Jennifer addresses a range of issues including developmental, operational, and organizational trauma, stress injuries, responses to critical incidents, anxiety, depression, and relationship troubles. Her therapeutic approach is both comprehensive and tailored, blending traditional psychodynamic talk therapy with innovative techniques such as EMDR, ego state therapy, and somatic skills. Jennifer's commitment to holistic care extends to her plans for incorporating animal-assisted therapy and walk-and-talk sessions in the future.

As a Christian therapist, Jennifer brings a unique perspective to addressing moral injury and soul wounds, understanding the deep existential questions that can arise from exposure to human suffering. While she supports integrating theology for interested clients, her practice warmly welcomes individuals of all beliefs.

Jennifer's impressive clinical background includes a Master's in Clinical Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, specialized training in trauma response, and ongoing certification processes in EMDR and Emergency Responder & Public Safety clinical work. Her public safety experience, including roles in 911 communications, crisis intervention, and hostage negotiations, further enriches her ability to connect with and support her clients.

At the heart of Jennifer's practice is a deep respect for the courage it takes to seek help, especially for those accustomed to being the helpers. She creates a safe, understanding space where clients can explore their challenges, leveraging their inner strength and resilience to foster healing and growth. Whether you're a first responder grappling with the weight of your experiences or an individual navigating life's complexities, Jennifer Leftwich offers a knowledgeable, compassionate presence to guide you on your journey to wellness.
