With over three decades of dedicated service in the mental health field, Douglas Counts, LICSW, brings a wealth of experience and a diverse skill set to his clinical practice. Mr. Counts' journey in mental health began with his graduation from the Boston College School of Social Work, where he earned his Masters of Clinical Social Work. His professional path has been marked by significant roles that have shaped his comprehensive understanding of mental health care. He has served as a case management supervisor for the Department of Mental Health and as a clinician for the Department of Corrections' mental health team, experiences that have informed his approach to complex cases and diverse client needs.

In his role as the Director of Substance Abuse at The Counseling Center in Middleboro, MA, Mr. Counts honed his expertise in addiction treatment, working closely with the Wareham District Court and receiving referrals from local courts, parole, and probation offices. This experience culminated in his position as Center Director for the Worcester, MA office of Arbour Counseling Services, further broadening his administrative and clinical skills.

Since 2001, Mr. Counts has dedicated himself to private practice, joining Newton Square Counseling Collaborative in 2016. His therapeutic approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), with a focus on Motivational Therapy. Recognizing the importance of holistic care, he also incorporates mindfulness training, meditation, and other relaxation techniques into his practice.

Mr. Counts' areas of expertise are extensive, encompassing individual and couples therapy, substance abuse treatment, trauma work, anxiety disorders, depression and bipolar disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, bereavement and loss, caretaker support, and aging and healthcare issues.
