With a unique blend of experience in education and mental health, Chelsea Whitby brings a compassionate and holistic approach to her role as a Mental Health Counselor Intern at Ogden Center for Change. Her journey into the field of mental health counseling is rooted in a deep-seated desire to alleviate suffering and a firm belief in the human capacity for healing and growth.
Chelsea's background is richly diverse, with a Master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas Tech University and 20 years of experience working with students and families. Her focus on disability, neurodiversity, mental health, and experiential learning in education has provided her with a nuanced understanding of human development and learning processes. This foundation informs her gentle, embodied, and self-compassionate approach to therapy.
As she pursues her master's degree in Mental Health Counseling at the University of the Cumberlands, Chelsea is expanding her expertise to address a wide range of mental health concerns. Her areas of experience include parenting and family life issues, disability and neurodiversity support, anxiety management, educational concerns including homeschooling, relationship and communication challenges, spiritual abuse and religious trauma, women's issues, chronic pain and illness management, childhood trauma, and mood and anxiety regulation.
Chelsea's commitment to evidence-based practices is evident in her advanced training in Pain Reprocessing Therapy, an innovative approach aimed at helping individuals reframe their experience of chronic pain and illness. Additionally, as a qualified Learning to Breathe instructor, she incorporates mindfulness-based stress reduction techniques to support clients in developing self-awareness, enhancing emotional regulation, and increasing overall well-being.
At the core of Chelsea's practice is a dedication to creating a safe space where clients can explore their feelings, identify needs, heal emotional wounds, and make choices aligned with their values. Her approach is trauma-informed and integrates various evidence-based methods, tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual.
