Carol Melim

With a passion for healing trauma and a specialization in working with adopted and fostered children, Carol Melim, LCSW, brings a wealth of experience to her role as Clinical Director at Lighthouse Psychiatry. Her journey in mental health began with a Master's in Social Work from Arizona State University in 2008, laying the foundation for a career dedicated to helping individuals overcome life's challenges.

Carol's expertise spans a wide range of mental health issues, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, mood disorders, and trauma. Her work with children, teens, and adults who have experienced abuse and neglect has made her particularly adept at addressing complex emotional needs. As an EMDR Certified therapist through EMDRIA, Carol has honed her skills in trauma processing, with additional training in early trauma reprocessing and Recent Traumatic Episode Protocol (R-TEP).

What sets Carol apart is her unique background in therapeutic foster care. For seven years, she personally provided care for children adopted from both overseas and within the United States. This hands-on experience has given her an intimate understanding of the challenges faced by adopted children and their families, allowing her to develop effective strategies for healing and promoting joyful family dynamics.

Carol's approach to therapy is both compassionate and practical. She understands the need for control that many adopted or fostered children experience and works tirelessly to help them find peace and belonging within their families. Her effectiveness in assisting children, teens, and adults who were adopted later in life or have come through the foster care system is a testament to her dedication and skill.

At Lighthouse Psychiatry, Carol continues to make a significant impact as Clinical Director, guiding a team of mental health professionals while maintaining her clinical practice. Her ability to work with patients across a broad age range, from 4 to 64 years old, showcases her versatility and deep understanding of developmental needs across the lifespan. Whether providing individual therapy, family counseling, or supervising other clinicians, Carol brings her wealth of experience and heartfelt commitment to every interaction, helping clients find their path to healing and happiness.
