About
With a unique blend of expertise in both psychology and philosophy, Blake Thompson, LMHC, brings a profound depth to his role as Executive Director and counselor at Seattle Anxiety Specialists. His approach to therapy is deeply rooted in existential psychotherapy, focusing on helping clients grapple with issues of meaning, purpose, and identity. This philosophical foundation, combined with his extensive training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), allows Blake to offer a comprehensive and nuanced approach to mental health care.
Blake's practice is particularly focused on serving adults struggling with anxiety disorders, including Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), agoraphobia, panic disorder, and social anxiety. His expertise extends to working with neurodivergent teens and adults, including those with ADHD and Autism, demonstrating his commitment to serving diverse populations with specialized needs.
Before founding Seattle Anxiety Specialists in 2016, Blake's professional journey took him through a variety of enriching experiences. He curated a lecture series for art galleries in the Portland area, worked as a writer for Max Baucus (U.S. ambassador to China under the Obama Administration), and presented original research at prestigious academic conferences worldwide, including those hosted by Brown University, Carnegie Mellon, and The École Normale Supérieure. These diverse experiences have undoubtedly contributed to the breadth of perspective he brings to his therapeutic practice.
As a testament to his commitment to mental health care, Blake, along with the Medical Director, maintains 100% ownership of Seattle Anxiety Specialists. This employee-owned model ensures autonomy from corporate healthcare interests, allowing the practice to focus solely on achieving the best possible mental health outcomes for their clients. Under Blake's leadership, the practice has grown to a team of over 20 mental health professionals while maintaining its core values and commitment to community service.
