About

With a passion for guiding individuals through life's challenges, Angela Connor brings a wealth of experience to her role as a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor at the Joliet Center for Clinical Research (JCCR). Since joining the team in 2012, Angela has dedicated herself to providing compassionate and effective mental health support to a diverse clientele.

Angela's journey in the field of psychology began at Loyola University, where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Psychology. Driven by a desire to specialize in supporting younger generations, she went on to complete her Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology at Lewis University, with a focus on children and adolescents. This specialized training has equipped Angela with unique insights into the developmental challenges faced by young people, making her particularly adept at working with children, teenagers, and young adults navigating the complexities of growing up.

While her educational background emphasizes work with younger clients, Angela's professional experience spans across all age groups. She has cultivated a particular interest in supporting individuals during the crucial phase of emerging adulthood—a time often marked by significant life transitions and personal growth. Her diverse counseling background includes valuable experience in psychiatric nursing homes, foster care services, and employee assistance programs (EAPs). Additionally, Angela has served as a supervisor in community mental health, further broadening her understanding of mental health care systems and enhancing her ability to provide comprehensive support to her clients.

Angela's approach to therapy is deeply rooted in the belief that finding the right therapist is crucial for effective treatment. She prioritizes creating a safe, welcoming environment where clients can feel comfortable sharing their concerns at their own pace. During initial appointments, Angela focuses on getting to know her clients, understanding their unique reasons for seeking support, and collaboratively developing an individualized treatment plan tailored to their specific emotional needs and personal recovery goals.

Recognizing the demands of modern life, Angela offers flexible scheduling options, including weekend appointments, to ensure that quality mental health care is accessible to those with busy schedules. Her areas of expertise encompass a wide range of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, autism spectrum disorder, bereavement, conflict resolution, coping skills, self-care, life transitions, LGBTQ issues, relational issues, self-esteem, self-injurious behaviors, social and communication skills, stress management, substance use, thought disorders, trauma, and women's issues.

At the heart of Angela's practice is a commitment to empowering her clients to navigate life's challenges with resilience and self-awareness. Whether working with a child struggling with social skills, an adolescent grappling with identity issues, or an adult facing a major life transition, Angela brings empathy, expertise, and a tailored approach to each therapeutic relationship. Her goal is not just to address immediate concerns but to equip her clients with the tools and insights they need for long-term emotional well-being and personal growth.
